Suely Torres

FOUNDER

Suely is the founder, curator and director of the German Migration Museum. Born in Recife, she studied literature at the UFPE and then at the UFRJ, in Rio de Janeiro. At the end of the 80’s she came to Berlin and immediately began her Master’s degree in Latin American Studies at the FU Berlin. She also graduated from FU with a degree in anthropology. At the UDK she specialized in curating art exhibitions. Suely Torres works as a photographer and curator.

Amanda Malerba

ACADEMIC ADVISOR

Amanda studied Philosophy (B.A./M.A.) at UNIFESP (Federal University of São Paulo). In her thesis, she researched the topic “Human coexistence in Freud and Bauman”. She is currently an academic advisor to the DMM and a doctoral student at the University of Hildesheim (Universität Hildesheim), with the research focus on Hospitality in the refugee crisis since 2015.

Marina Mascarenhas

CULTURAL PLANNING

Marina Mascarenhas is a Berlin based artist from Belo Horizonte, Brazil. She has a BA in International Relations from PUC Minas and a BA in Fine Arts from Escola Guignard (UEMG). Her research explores themes such as time, transformation and memory. As a migrant, Marina feels particularly connected to the DMM and is involved in the cultural and strategic planning of the museum.
